VOCM (Voice Of the Common Man) is an AM radio station in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 590 kHz. Owned by Stingray Group, VOCM first went on the air on October 19, 1936. Through the “VOCM/Big Land FM Radio Network” of stations owned by Stingray, VOCM programming is carried throughout the province.
VOCM first hit the airwaves on October 19th, 1933, broadcasting from the family home of Walter B. Williams Jr.
The station continued on until it was officially licensed for commercial broadcasting three years later in 1936.
Since then, the station has gone through a few different owners, including Steele Communications and, most recently Stingray.
Over the years VOCM became trusted to connect people with the topics they cared about, by some of the most recognizable voices in radio.
